A completely wireless connection may sound nice in theory, but in reality, it can be quite dangerous to rely solely on being wireless. Sure, a wireless network allows you a great deal of mobility, but they are not always reliable. A wired network is the most secure option available, while also being considerably faster at times than a wireless setup. Also, it should be mentioned that a wired network is the more reliable option to go with, although, there are a few things that you will need to have in place for a functioning wired network.
A router is something you will already have if you have a wireless network, but it is an absolute necessity for a wired network as well. The router you use for a wired network though will require different attributes than the one you will typically just use for a wireless network. For a wired network, your router needs to have enough ports for each of the computers you wish to connect to the wired network. Otherwise, you will have some computers unable to connect to the network, unless you make sure the router also has the wireless capabilities mentioned before, allowing you to have the best of both worlds.
If you are trying to stay connected to a wired network, then you will need Ethernet cables to keep you connected to said wired network. Your Ethernet cable is what you will use to connect your computer to your router, creating a reliable and fast connection. There are different types of Ethernet cables that you can choose from that provide you with their own set of capabilities, such as speed. So when picking out Ethernet cables for your wired network, make sure you are picking the ones that provide you with what you are looking for.
Every computer that you wish to have connected to your wired network will require a network adapter. In most cases, you will find that most computers you buy already have network adapters installed into them, saving you the worry of having to go out and buy one. As a matter of fact, laptops usually come with built-in network adapters for both wired networks and wireless networks. Although be prepared to go out and purchase a network adapter if you discover your computers are not built with one.
